NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 214: "Out of Time" Is Up!

"And I know who you are."
"Ah.  Yes.  Yes...Yes, you do.  Yes.  Awkward."
"And you weren’t going to tell me."
"Well, it’s just the Abbess warned against it and I didn’t want to interfere with my own history…"
"Ah…Well, shouldn’t I have a say?"
"You do have a say.  I mean, you have to wait to be me to say it."
-- The Fourth Doctor and the Tenth Doctor, Doctor Who: "Out of Time"

Hello again, everyone!  My partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast!  In this episode, we discuss "Out of Time", the first audio story from Big Finish Productions' Doctor Who: Out of Time series released in 2020, featuring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Claire Rushbrook as The Abbess/Marna, and Nicholas Briggs as the voice of the Daleks!

In this episode, Jesse and I discuss things like my Cleveland Browns still being in the playoffs, "Out of Time" being turned into a series of audios by Big Finish, Tom Baker and David Tennant arguably being the most popular Doctors, Claire Rushbrook in "The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit", The Fourth Doctor post "The Deadly Assassin", the Tenth Doctor post "The Waters of Mars", the oldest Doctor trying to keep his future from the younger Doctor in multi-Doctor stories, David Tennant being less fanboyish in "Out of Time" than in "Time Crash", temporal ripples of the Fourth Doctor learning something that cascades through time to the Tenth Doctor, the Doctors deciding who gets to face the Daleks with "Rock, Paper, Stone", the Fourth Doctor being upset by the Tenth acting all "Time Lord Victorious", Private Jora and her dad Captain Zenna, wanting to see more of the Cathedral of Contemplation, the Thirteenth Doctor not having a Cathedral of Contemplation to think about things, Zenna being revealed as a Dalek duplicate, the Daleks actually having a good plan that makes sense, the Daleks in the Second Dalek War, the Fourth Doctor calling out the Daleks for killing The Abbess prematurely, the Tenth Doctor tricking the Daleks and sending them to the year 5.5/Apple/26 from "The End of the World", the Tenth Doctor heading off into "The End of Time", our favorite quotes of the episode, my Reverse the Polarity segment, new feedback from Hannah Skorapa and Holly Mac, David K. Proctor writing a nice review of Next Stop Everywhere on iTunes, Jesse talking Casablanca on Gold Standard: The Oscars Podcast, how I'm watching "The Faceless Ones", and more!

BBC Announces DOCTOR WHO: TIME LORD VICTORIOUS Multi-Platform Story with Eighth, Ninth & Tenth Doctors

The Doctors are about to fight a whole new time war.

DoctorWho.TV has some details of the BBC's announcement of Doctor Who: Time Lord Victorious, a new multi-platform story taking place over twelve weeks across audio, novels, comics, vinyl, digital, immersive theatre, escape rooms and games.

According to the article, Doctor Who: Time Lord Victorious "will be set within the Dark Times at the start of the universe, when even the Eternals were young.  It features the Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Doctors, travelling across space and time as they defend the universe from a terrible race.  As well as three Doctors, companion Rose Tyler and monsters including the Daleks and the Ood will feature, plus more to be revealed over the coming months as products are announced.  Partners involved in the project include Penguin Random House, BBC Books, Doctor Who Magazine, Titan Comics, Escape Hunt, Big Finish and Immersive Everywhere."

Producer James Goss was quoted, saying, "BBC Studios’ Doctor Who licensees have come together to tell an amazing epic – one that’s full of monsters, fun and heart.  All strands of the story unite into a mighty patchwork that ranges from one end of the universe to the next. There's more to be revealed, but the enthusiasm and ideas which the licensees have come up with are breath-taking. It's going to be such fun."

As Doctor Who fans know, "Time Lord Victorious" is a reference to a title the Tenth Doctor briefly claimed due to his status as the terminator, final survivor, and "winner" of the Last Great Time War in the 2009 Doctor Who Autumn Special "The Waters of Mars".  During his visit to Bowie Base One in 2059, the Tenth Doctor realized that, as the last of the Time Lords, he had control over the Laws of Time.  He demonstrated this by breaking a fixed point in time to rescue Adelaide Brooke, Mia Bennett, and Yuri Kerenski.  In a subsequent conversation with Adelaide, he confirmed her suggestions that he was effectively omnipotent and unstoppable.  Following Adelaide's vehement rebuke and subsequent suicide, the Tenth Doctor decided he had gone too far and returned to the TARDIS, pondering omens of his regeneration.

While it seems likely that actors Paul McGann, David Tennant and Billie Piper will be involved in the project given their recent contributions to Big Finish Productions' Doctor Who audio stories, it remains to be seen whether Christopher Eccleston, who played the Ninth Doctor, will also participate.  Eccleston has been noticeably absent from reprising his role for Big Finish, and recently declined to contribute to the special message supporting National Health Service staff that featured McGann, Tennant and eight other actors who have played the Doctor.

Doctor Who: Time Lord Victorious will launch in September 2020 over twelve weeks, with products and experiences releasing from September until January 2021.

"...They died with me."
-- The Valeyard and the Sixth Doctor, Doctor Who: "The Brink of Death"

That's right, my partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are back with a new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast!  In this episode, Jesse and I review the 2015 Big Finish audio adventure "The Brink of Death", the fourth story in The Sixth Doctor - The Last Adventure set, which features Colin Baker's final chronological story as the Sixth Doctor, Bonnie Langford as Melanie "Mel" Bush, and Michael Jayston as The Valeyard!

This time, Jesse and I discuss things like both of our football teams sucking badly, Big Finish fixing the lost opportunity of Colin Baker getting a Sixth Doctor regeneration scene, my initial reaction to the Sixth Doctor back in the day, the Doctor Who charity record Doctor in Distress, BBC Controller Michael Grade, the Sixth Doctor accepting his fate, whether Genesta actually existed, my thoughts on the Valeyard's origin, the Sixth Doctor getting a more heroic regeneration than just bumping his head on the TARDIS console, maintaining continuity with "Time and the Rani", getting an explanation of why the Seventh Doctor has morality issues, my Reverse the Polarity segmentnew feedback from Drew Coffill, Holly from Wisconsin & Paul from Australia, K-9's 40th anniversary, getting Jesse's Set Lusting Bruce podcast more attention on iTunes, and more!
